Creating Independent Learners with Agile Pull Based Methods



In education, it is vital to reevaluate our approach to teaching and learning. The traditional push-based system, rooted in memorization and compliance, no longer suffices in preparing students for the complexities of the modern world. It's time to introduce a more agile, pull-based educational system that fosters agency, engagement, critical thinking, and the flow of learning.


The Push-Based System: An Age-Old Tradition


For decades, the traditional push-based system has been the cornerstone of American education. This system is teacher-centric, where educators are the sole bearers of knowledge, determining what, how, and when students will learn. As we look ahead, it becomes increasingly evident that the world our students are inheriting is nothing like the one we encountered in our own educational journeys. They are stepping into a realm filled with challenges of unparalleled complexity, opportunities to wield cutting-edge technology, and a whirlwind of unprecedented changes that shape the very fabric of our existence.


The pivotal question we face as educators is this: Do we continue to mold our students into passive sponges, mere vessels for memorizing the thoughts and knowledge of others?
